Greens mowing

mowingA photo of the 12th green after having been cut at 3 mm with the walk behind mowers. Reports during the week have been positive after the full renovation 2 weeks ago. If the rain stays away we will cut and roll in the morning.

Greens mowing

Greens will be mowed tomorrow morning for the 1st time since renovations at a height of 4.5 mm. Next week they will gradually be lowered back to our normal cutting height of 3 mm. As of Monday the 5th September walk behind mowers will be back in use.

Rain and bunkers

RAIN

42mm of rain overnight has left a lot of bunkers with water in them. This is young Tarek from Greystanes high school who comes in on Thursdays as part of their Work education life skills program pumping water from the 16th bunker. It will take around 8 hours to pump them all out ready for raking tomorrow afternoon.

Topdressing

dig

At the completion of the hollow coring all cores are blown off the surface, fertiliser applied and prepared for top dressing. Unfortunately we had rain on Monday night which meant we could not use our top dressing unit as three tonnes of sand and machinery combined would have led to wheel ruts in the putting surface. So we went old school. The bo

tonnes of sand over the greens using shovels only. We got the sand out in time and rubbed in prior to the weather cooling off. A long day but well worth the effort.

Coring

coringIts that time of year again when the greens are rolling well and the staff go and punch holes in the greens.
Aeration is extremely important heading into the warmer months. It allows gas and oxygen exchange which in turn leads to stronger healthier roots.
All greens were Verti drained with half inch hollow tines to a depth of five inches.
