HAPPY MOTHERS DAY

On behalf of the Board I’d like to wish all the Mothers a Happy Mother’s Day.  If you’re looking for something special why not celebrate with mum in our Harmony restaurant.  Booking are recommended as this is traditionally a very popular event in our club.

I think we all know how well the course works are coming along and this week we even got the approval from two black swans who have taken up residency on our course.  We have a lot of wildlife returning to the course but wow Black Swans ?

C Grade – William Sloan(22) – 62

ANZAC Day Medal:
Michael Eisenhuth – 43pts

MEDAL DAY COMPETITIONS
We are aware that a number of members opt not to play in the stroke events on Monthly Medal days, so the Board have decided to include an alternate event of those days such as a Stableford or Par event.  Our systems are being adjusted and will be ready to cater for both events from next month.

SHOTGUN STARTS
We will once again be scheduling shotgun starts on Saturdays throughout June & July.

Implementing shotgun starts during the winter months allows us to maximise the number of available timesheet spots, ensuring as many members as possible can access the course despite the reduced daylight hours. We appreciate your support and cooperation during these events, as they play an important role in accommodating player demand across the shorter winter days.

Further communications from the Club and Proshop will be provided in the lead up to each scheduled shotgun start.

MASTERS PENNANT COMPETITION
Our Masters Pennant team will be announced and presented with their club shirt prior to ‘booking in’ on Friday 15th May with the competition kicking off the following Sunday.  All of our Pennant Teams appreciate the support from members who able to come along to the games.

REMOVAL OF CONSTRUCTION FENCING – 1st HOLE
The construction fencing on the 1st hole has now been removed and replaced with flagged roping.

Please be advised that this area remains an active construction zone and is designated as a No Play Zone. Entry is strictly prohibited at all times, including for the retrieval of golf balls.

We appreciate your cooperation in ensuring safety and protecting the ongoing works.

TRIPLE SIX CHALLENGE – THURSDAY 21ST MAY 8AM
This is a great event where you can get out and have some fun with great prizes.  With breakfast and lunch included, it’s good value at just $35 per player!

Happy Golfing!

Course Update – April 2026

The Board would like to sincerely thank members for their patience and loyalty throughout the delivery of the Course Enabling Works (CEW).  The new holes represent the largest course work project undertaken at the club in over 50 years.

Seasonal conditions
April has continued to present demanding conditions for course maintenance, with warm weather, elevated humidity and operational constraints influencing daily programs.  The priority remains maintaining playability, protecting key surfaces and supporting a smooth transition into autumn.  These conditions have provided challenges and required careful prioritisation of works, with emphasis placed on greens, tees and primary playing corridors.

Greens and playing surfaces
· Greens are cut daily at 3.2mm and continue to present with good colour and minimal thinning
· Greens were cored using hollow 1/2 inch tines to relieve compaction, manage thatch and improve soil oxygen exchange
· Irrigation and growth regulation programs have been adjusted to suit current conditions
· Tees remain stable, with worn areas improving through targeted nutrition and moisture management
· Fairways are now cut at 12mm, with new fairways incorporated into the mowing program

Maintenance across surrounds and rough has been adjusted to manage wear, staff time as cooler conditions approach. Irrigation repairs and sprinkler head replacements remain ongoing in priority areas.  Dam levels are strong, with the 2nd dam currently at full capacity

Fuel supply considerations
Global fuel market volatility has the potential to place pressure on fuel pricing and availability over coming months.  Fuel remains a critical input for daily course operations including mowing, spraying and construction support activities.  There is no immediate impact to course playability.  Fuel usage and scheduling are being closely monitored to ensure efficiency and cost control; members will be informed if conditions change.

Course Works and CEW update
The CEW works are nearing completion, and the focus has shifted to establishment, consolidation and ensuring the long-term quality and durability of what has been delivered. The CEW areas are settling in well; the finished works reflect the intended design and are establishing as expected.  How good do the new holes look?

The Club is taking a measured and responsible approach to next steps.  All contracted works must be confirmed as delivered in accordance with the contract.  Saying that conversations have commenced on when to open the new holes, while no date has been nominated, it will be soon.  Watch this space!

In the meantime, Golf NSW has our new course data and will be providing a slope rating soon.  One of the next actions will be to rate each hole, which hole will be ranked the hardest?

Looking ahead
As autumn conditions continue to develop, the focus will be on:
· Nutrient management to support turf health and colour
· Adjusting irrigation to suit reduced moisture demand
· Ongoing monitoring of newly turfed and repaired areas
· Continued preparation for winter conditions, including preventative disease and moisture stress programs

The Greens Committee thanks members for their continued support and remains committed to delivering sustainable, high quality playing conditions.

Vice-Captain (Chair of Greens)

LADIES PRESIDENT REPORT

I’m sure we have all been appreciating the super weather we have been experiencing of late.  Unfortunately, it won’t last forever, and we will again be complaining of the cold.

Last Tuesday 28th we held our Invitation and Friendship day.  We had visitors from Pennant Hills, Castle Hill and Carnarvon golf clubs.  Although our own numbers were down, I hope everyone enjoyed the day and dressing up in bright colours.

Next Tuesday will be the Fay Spears Trophy Day when we also acknowledge all our Mothers and Grandmothers.  Stay well ladies and enjoy good golf and friendship.

PENNANT NEWS

Major Pennant Report – Round 6 vs Macquarie Links Golf Club
Round 6 commenced with all positions in the section still in play, with Cumberland a chance to finish anywhere from first to fourth depending on the results of both matches. A strong home win was required to keep top spot hopes alive.
The opening nine holes were fiercely contested, with no separating the two teams at the turn. Cumberland secured the first completed match through Sean Moylan’s convincing win, before Macquarie Links responded to level the contest.

From there, the results seesawed as both sides traded crucial victories. The final outcome came down to Isaak Pemble, who showed outstanding composure under pressure. Trailing by one with two holes to play, Isaak won the 17th and 18th holes to turn a potential loss into a clutch 1up win, securing the team victory on the final green.
Match Highlights
•  Duncan Bowen continued his outstanding form with a hard fought 2&1 victory to finish the year undefeated– an outstanding achievement in his rookie season.
•  Jordan Ross delivered an impressive 6&5 victory and also capped off an excellent debut season, winning 4 of his 6 matches.
•  Isaak Pemble’s late surge, winning the final two holes, sealed a valuable home victory for Cumberland, also leaving him with 4 wins from 6 starts playing at number 1.
•  Sean Moylan produced a commanding 6&4 win, setting the tone early and providing Cumberland with crucial momentum.

Final Result
Cumberland 4 defeated Macquarie Links 3

It was a pleasing home result, highlighted by several strong performances. Unfortunately, Long Reef’s away win against Antill Park saw them top the section, with Cumberland finishing the 2026 season in second place and remaining in Division 3 for 2027.
A sincere thank you to all the caddies whose continued support plays an important role in the team’s success.
Individual Results
1. Isaak Pemble – won 1up
2. Joshua Russo – lost 2&1
3. Duncan Bowen – won 2&1

6. Joshua Madeleine – lost 4&2
