Masters Pennant – Finals Rd 1

The Cumberland master Pennant Team has qualified for the final. After an unbeaten regular season the team was seeded 1 for the semi-finals and came up against Campbelltown who were seeded 4.

The venue was Richmond and overnight rain made the conditions challenging. Knowing they needed to win 5 matches the team went to work.

Results were looking good early on with most players up in their matches by the 5th hole. By 9 we were up in 6 of the 8 matches.

Ian McCarthy was first in, thumping his opponent 7&5. Greg Northam followed soon afterwards winning 5&4. Mark Guinney continued his great season with a 4&3 victory. Lennie Lambert proved his value with another stella win 5&4. Craig Paul was the winning match, taking care of his opponent 2 up.

A huge thankyou goes out to the supporters who braved the conditions to cheer the boys on. As always thanks to the caddies who support their players no end!

The team will play against North Ryde in the final and we will let you know the venue as soon as we have it.

NORTHERN DISTRICTS BRONZE 11 PENNANT SEASON BEGINS

Well, here we are again with another team proudly representing Cumberland.
Our first match was played at Pymble on the 17th May against Killara
Our team – Elizabeth Chung
                  Sun Hee Lee
                  Jieun Jeon
                  Sujung Lee
                  Mi Sook Oh
Three of the five are new members to our squad, so welcome Elizabeth, Sun Hee and Jieun.
Pymble was, as usual, spectacular.  A sparkling autumn day and beautiful surrounds, what could be better. A win?  It was not to be this time around, Killara won the match 3/2. All matches went to the 18th so a very close affair. Our new players got to experience match play and no doubt will have learnt a lot.
Our next match is at North Ryde on 14th May against Muirfield.  GOOD LUCK LADIES.
Until next time.

Ladies Bronze II Pennants vs North Ryde – 31/5

Rain was forecast and it was very threatening but thankfully the ladies were able to play their matches and remained dry.

Our team  –  Sun Hee Lee

Cecilia Hwang

Jeiun Jeon

Mi Sook Oh

Kay Park

Again it was a struggle. North Ryde defeated Cumberland 3.5/1.5.

Our ladies have the odds against them, as this competition is stroke, and in every match we are competing against opponents who play off lower handicaps and in some cases up to 5 shots lower handicaps. Luckily, our ladies are not deterred and give their all trying for that elusive win.  This match saw Cecilia came away with an impressive win and Sun Hee had her first square. Keep going Sun Hee a win is not far away.

Next Friday Cumberland are hosting and we are looking forward to welcoming our guests and showing them Cumberland’s good old hospitality and giving them the chance to play a great course.

Until next time.
