On an unpleasant cold and windy winter’s day the team went into their last game at Massey Park only requiring a draw to win the Division. This they did, just, securing a 4 All result against the also undefeated Bankstown side.

Even though the game finished all square, Bankstown had comfortable wins in 3 of their matches, while Cumberland scrambled their way with two 1 up results (the dynamic duo of Hilton and Kiddle) and a 2/1 win to Sonny Sun. Two matches were drawn(Britton and Lee).

Most notably, our Treasurer, Robert Shield, who had been in outstanding form winning all his matches to date by very large margins chose the wrong day to be a little off his game when he came up against a previous winner of the South Australian Open (won by such luminaries as Graham Marsh and Peter Senior) to go down 6 and 4. Let’s not worry about the date of that SA Open win.

So after this pugnacious effort by the team and strong wins in earlier rounds we go into the September Finals highly seeded with realistic hopes of progressing beyond past achievements.
